How many Toyota cars are on the road?

There were 1,777,976 Toyota cars licensed in Great Britain at the end of March 2026, and a further 159,987 declared off the road (SORN). That is 5.3% of all licensed cars, or about 1 in 19, making Toyota the No. 6 make on the road. That is the most on the road at any year end since 1994. Hybrid makes up 43.2% of licensed Toyota cars, against 9.0% of all cars.

39 Toyota models have a page of their own. The most common is the Toyota Yaris, with 575,454 licensed: 32.4% of all Toyota cars on the road. Over the last year the Yaris added the most cars on the road (+17,303, +3.1%) and the Avensis lost the most (−7,064, −12.9%). The totals above also count models too small for a page of their own.

Toyota MOT reliability

In 2025, 75.2% of MOT tests of Toyota cars were passed first time, from 1,580,135 tests. Cars of the same ages pass 72.4% of the time, so Toyota does better than average for the age of its cars, by 2.8 points. That ranks Toyota No. 20 of the 50 makes with enough tests to compare. 5.6% of Toyota tests found at least one dangerous defect, against 7.3% for all cars.

Among Toyota models with enough tests, the Supra does best for its age (+15.8 points against cars of the same ages) and the Previa does worst (−5.3 points). Average age at test for Toyota cars: 11.1 years.
