Terms of use
The rules for using UK Motoring, what you can rely on, and how to reuse our figures.
Last updated 17 September 2026.
In short
- UK Motoring is free to use. Our figures come from official and open data.
- We work hard to get them right, but they are for information: check anything important with the original source, and check fuel prices at the pump.
- We don’t give advice. Insurance quotes come from SimplyQuote.co.uk and Quotezone.
- You are welcome to quote our figures with a credit and a link.
About these terms
UK Motoring (ukmotoring.co.uk) is run by Simply Quote Comparison Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 15008284, registered office Sentinel House, Ancells Business Park, Harvest Crescent, Fleet, GU51 2UZ. In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Simply Quote Comparison Ltd, and “you” means anyone using the website, My Garage or our emails.
By using UK Motoring you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site. How we use personal information is explained in our privacy notice, and the cookies we use in our cookie policy.
Using UK Motoring
The website, its statistics and tools, My Garage and our emails are free. You can use them for your own information, for research and reporting, and at work. There are no paid services on UK Motoring at the moment; if we introduce any, they will have their own terms, which you will see before you pay.
Information, not advice
Our figures come from government and open datasets, listed on our data sources page, and how we calculate them is set out in our methodology. We take care to reproduce and calculate them accurately, but sources can contain errors, change after we publish, or be revised, and we can make mistakes too. So:
- Everything on UK Motoring is general information, not advice. It doesn’t take account of your circumstances. Check the original source before relying on a figure for an important decision, and take professional advice where you need it.
- Fuel prices are the latest prices forecourts have reported, checked twice a day. Forecourts can change their prices at any time: always check the price at the pump.
- Road closures and roadworks are planned works, which can change, finish early or overrun. They don’t include incidents. Check before you travel and follow the signs on the road.
- EV chargers come from community datasets that may be incomplete or out of date. Chargers can be out of service, restricted or priced differently from what is shown.
- Model and MOT statistics describe cars of a model and age in general, not any particular vehicle. They are not a check of a car you are thinking of buying, and don’t replace an inspection, a history check or an MOT.
- Example reports are labelled as examples and use invented details.
UK Motoring is independent. We are not part of, or endorsed by, the DVLA, DVSA, Department for Transport, National Highways or any other data publisher, or any vehicle manufacturer.
If you think a figure is wrong, please tell us which page and figure, and we will check it.
Insurance comparison
Some pages link to car insurance comparison on SimplyQuote.co.uk, which is run by the same company as UK Motoring.
- Insurance comparison via SimplyQuote.co.uk in partnership with Quotezone.
- We’re partnered with Quotezone. As an Introducer Appointed Representative of Seopa Ltd (FCA FRN: 313860), we receive a commission if you purchase insurance products via SimplyQuote.co.uk.
- We do not provide advice or make recommendations. Your choice of provider is entirely your own.
Quotes, and any policy you take out, are provided under the terms of SimplyQuote.co.uk, Quotezone and the insurer you choose, not these terms. Insurance renewal reminders are a reminder only: it is up to you to check your renewal date and make sure you stay insured.
My Garage and our emails
- You sign in to My Garage with a link or code sent to your email address, so keep access to your email account secure. Don’t share sign-in links or codes, or sign up with an email address that isn’t yours.
- The weekly fuel price email and insurance renewal reminders are free, and you can stop them at any time with the unsubscribe link in each email or in My Garage.
- We may change or stop a feature or email, and we may suspend or close an account that is used to break these terms. You can ask us to close your account at any time by emailing hello@ukmotoring.co.uk.
- We can’t promise that every email will arrive, or arrive on time, for example if it is filtered as junk. Adding our address to your contacts helps.
Using our figures and content
Quoting our figures. You are welcome to quote and use figures from UK Motoring in articles, research, reports and social media, as long as you credit UK Motoring with a link to the page and name the original source shown on it. Please don’t present our figures in a way that suggests we endorse you or your product. Our methodology page has guidance for journalists.
The underlying data. The official and open datasets we use belong to their publishers and are available under their own licences, such as the Open Government Licence. The licence and required credit for each one are on our data attribution page. Where a licence says our version of the data must be shared on the same terms, as for the OpenStreetMap and Open Charge Map charger data, that licence applies to it rather than these terms.
Our own content. Apart from that, the text, analysis, page designs, graphics and the UK Motoring name and logo are owned by us or used with permission. Don’t copy or republish whole pages or large parts of the site, or build a database or service from it, without our written permission. For bulk data, go to the original source, or ask us.
What you must not do
When using UK Motoring, you must not:
- break the law, or use the site for anything fraudulent or harmful;
- use robots, scrapers or other automated tools to copy large parts of the site, or send so many requests that it affects the site for others (normal search engine indexing is fine);
- try to get into parts of the site, accounts or systems you are not allowed to, or get around our security, rate limits or spam protection;
- sign other people up to our emails, submit forms automatically, or use the contact form to send spam, abuse or anything harmful;
- introduce viruses or other harmful code.
Links to other websites
We link to other websites, including the sources of our data. We don’t control them and aren’t responsible for their content, availability or how they use your information. You are welcome to link to any page on UK Motoring, as long as the link is fair and doesn’t suggest a connection or endorsement that doesn’t exist.
Changes and availability
We keep improving UK Motoring, so pages, tools and figures change, and some may be removed. We don’t promise the site will always be available or free from faults, and we may suspend it for maintenance. We may update these terms; the date at the top shows when they last changed, and the version on this page when you use the site applies.
Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t allow us to limit. Nor do they affect your legal rights as a consumer.
Apart from that:
- If you use UK Motoring as a consumer, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable. Because the site is free and for general information, we are not responsible for decisions you make relying on it without checking the original source where it matters, such as buying a vehicle or planning a journey.
- If you use UK Motoring for business, the site is provided as it is, and we exclude all implied terms and warranties as far as the law allows. We are not responsible for any loss of profit, sales, business, revenue, goodwill or data, or for any indirect or consequential loss, whether it arises from contract, negligence or anything else.
Trade marks
Vehicle makes, models and logos, and the names of fuel retailers and charging networks, are trade marks of their owners. We use them only to identify the vehicles, forecourts and networks our figures are about; that doesn’t mean their owners are connected to or endorse UK Motoring.
Law and complaints
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you want to bring a claim, the courts of England and Wales can hear it; if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring it in the courts there.
If something has gone wrong, please contact us first, and we will try to put it right.
