Who we are

UK Motoring is run by Simply Quote Comparison Ltd, the data controller for personal data collected on this website. Registered in England and Wales, company number 15008284. Registered office: Sentinel House, Ancells Business Park, Harvest Crescent, Fleet, GU51 2UZ. Registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office, number ZB659587.

What we collect

You don’t need an account to use UK Motoring. Searches and tool inputs, such as a registration number or postcode, are used to answer your request and are not stored against you. The fuel price finder works entirely in your browser: the postcode or town you search for, and your location if you choose to share it, are not sent to us.

Signing in and My Garage

If you sign in, we keep your email address, when you signed in, and a record of the device session (a cookie that keeps you signed in, a shortened fingerprint of your IP address and your browser type). We use these to sign you in, to show your settings in My Garage and to protect your account. Signing in uses a link or code sent by email; there is no password. We delete email addresses that ask for a sign-in link but never use it after 7 days.

Weekly fuel price email

If you sign up for our weekly email of the cheapest fuel within 5 miles of your postcode, we keep:

• your email address and postcode;
• when and on which page you signed up, when you confirmed your address, and the wording you agreed to.

We use these only to send the weekly email and to keep a record of your consent. The sign-up form says: “We’ll use your email address and postcode to send you a weekly UK Motoring email. You can unsubscribe at any time.” We send a link to confirm your email address before the first email, and every email has a link to unsubscribe. You can change your postcode, or follow more than one, by signing in to My Garage.

Our lawful basis is your consent. You can withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing. We keep your details while you are subscribed. After you unsubscribe we stop the emails and keep a record of when you gave and withdrew consent, as evidence that we emailed you lawfully; if an email to you bounces or is reported as spam, we keep a scrambled (hashed) form of your address so we never email it again.

Insurance renewal reminder

If you tick the box asking us to remind you when your car insurance is due for renewal, we keep your email address, the month your insurance renews, and when and where you asked (with the wording you agreed to). We email you once a year, four weeks before that month, with a link to compare quotes on SimplyQuote.co.uk. This is marketing, so it is separate from any other email and our lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with the unsubscribe link in the email or in My Garage. When you compare quotes, SimplyQuote.co.uk and Quotezone handle your quote under their own privacy notices; we don’t pass them your details.

Who handles your data for us

• Vercel hosts the website and runs our servers.
• Neon stores sign-in and email subscription records, in its London (UK) region.
• Resend sends our emails.

Each acts only on our instructions under its data processing terms. Where a provider handles data outside the UK, it does so under the safeguards UK data protection law requires.

Analytics

If we use analytics, we will name the provider here and use a cookieless option where possible.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, or to stop using it. Contact details for these requests will be added here before launch. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
