How many Renault cars are on the road?

There were 885,220 Renault cars licensed in Great Britain at the end of March 2026, and a further 127,696 declared off the road (SORN). That is 2.6% of all licensed cars, or about 1 in 38, making Renault the No. 16 make on the road. That is 51.5% fewer than the peak of 1.82 million in 2006. Plug-in hybrid makes up 0.4% of licensed Renault cars, against 2.8% of all cars.

27 Renault models have a page of their own. The most common is the Renault Clio, with 316,262 licensed: 35.7% of all Renault cars on the road. Over the last year the 5 E-Tech added the most cars on the road (+10,969, +4769.1%) and the Clio lost the most (−11,471, −3.5%). The totals above also count models too small for a page of their own.

Renault MOT reliability

In 2025, 63.4% of MOT tests of Renault cars were passed first time, from 768,355 tests. Cars of the same ages pass 72.2% of the time, so Renault does worse than average for the age of its cars, by 8.8 points. That ranks Renault No. 47 of the 50 makes with enough tests to compare. 8.8% of Renault tests found at least one dangerous defect, against 7.3% for all cars.

Among Renault models with enough tests, the Arkana does best for its age (−1.4 points against cars of the same ages) and the Grand Scenic does worst (−12.7 points). Average age at test for Renault cars: 10.7 years.
