How many Hyundai cars are on the road?
There were 1,162,138 Hyundai cars licensed in Great Britain at the end of June 2026, and a further 39,309 declared off the road (SORN). That is 3.4% of all licensed cars, or about 1 in 29, making Hyundai the No. 11 make on the road. That is the most on the road at any year end since 1994. Diesel makes up 15.9% of licensed Hyundai cars, against 27.5% of all cars.

Cars of the same ages pass 74.9% of the time, so Hyundai does worse than average for the age of its cars, by 1.0 point. That ranks Hyundai No. 31 of the 50 makes with enough tests to compare. 7.2% of Hyundai tests found at least one dangerous defect, against 7.3% for all cars.
Among Hyundai models with enough tests, the Ioniq does best for its age (+1.7 points against cars of the same ages) and the i800 does worst (−12.3 points). Average age at test for Hyundai cars: 9.3 years.
