How many MG cars are on the road?
There were 434,254 MG cars licensed in Great Britain at the end of March 2026, and a further 53,864 declared off the road (SORN). That is 1.3% of all licensed cars, or about 1 in 77, making MG the No. 23 make on the road. That is the most on the road at any year end since 1994. Diesel makes up 0.3% of licensed MG cars, against 28.1% of all cars.

In 2025, 80.6% of MOT tests of MG cars were passed first time, from 160,783 tests. Cars of the same ages pass 82.9% of the time, so MG does worse than average for the age of its cars, by 2.3 points. That ranks MG No. 37 of the 50 makes with enough tests to compare. 5.1% of MG tests found at least one dangerous defect, against 7.3% for all cars.
Among MG models with enough tests, the TF does best for its age (+8.9 points against cars of the same ages) and the 6 does worst (−6.6 points). Average age at test for MG cars: 7.4 years.
