How many BMW M3s are left in Great Britain?
There were 27,778 BMW M3s licensed in Great Britain at the end of March 2026, and a further 9,412 declared off the road (SORN).
That is the most on the road at any year end since 1994.

In 2025, 86.7% of BMW M3 MOT tests were passed first time,
against 72.8% for all cars.
Cars of the same ages as the BMW M3s tested pass 66.8% of the time, so the BMW M3 does better than average for its age, by 19.9 points. In 2024 its pass rate was 86.0%.

The share with an engine of 2,901cc to 3,000cc has grown from 3.4% in 2014 to 70.2%. Hybrids made up 0.0% of those licensed in 2014 and 33.2% in 2025.

How we use engine sizes.
BMW M3 fuel economy and CO2
The Vehicle Certification Agency’s new car data lists the BMW M3 from 2014, and still lists it. On the WLTP test (listings 2025 to 2026), official combined fuel economy for its petrol versions ranges from 26.9 to 28.0 mpg, with CO2 of 227 to 238 g/km. On the older NEDC test (listings 2014 to 2018), official combined fuel economy for its petrol versions ranges from 32.1 to 34.0 mpg, with CO2 of 194 to 204 g/km.

DVSA lists 12 safety recalls for the BMW M3 since 1992, the first in 2008. The most recent was launched on 18 December 2025.

Defect
Affected vehicles are already included in Safety Recalls within the markets they have previously resided in. The vehicles may be fitted with a driver and/or passenger airbag/s which if deployed may do so with excessive force causing sharp metal fragments to be released this may cause serious injury which could prove fatal to people in the vicinity.
Remedy
Vehicles will have the affected airbags checked and if necessary replaced.

DVSA records the model name typed in at the test. We match those names to DVLA’s generic models, so a handful of tests may be counted under a close relative.
