4,196 battery electric cars were licensed in West Lothian at the end of March 2026, 4.4% of all cars, 69th highest of 361 councils. With plug-in hybrids, 5,974 cars plug in. A year earlier there were 2,911.

Of the privately kept cars, which are registered at home addresses, 3.8% are battery electric (3,417 cars), 5th highest of 32 councils in Scotland. Companies keep 18.6% of the area’s battery electric cars, against 5.7% of its cars overall. There are also 116 battery electric vans.
