How many Mercedes-Benz C-Classes are left in Great Britain?

There were 326,200 Mercedes-Benz C-Classes licensed in Great Britain at the end of March 2026, and a further 46,533 declared off the road (SORN). That is 21.4% fewer than the peak of 415,102 in 2018.

A failed test can have defects in more than one category, so shares add up to more than 100%. 8.4% of Mercedes-Benz C-Class tests found at least one dangerous defect, against 7.3% for all cars.

Most common Mercedes-Benz C-Class MOT defects and advisories

The single most common reason a Mercedes-Benz C-Class failed its MOT in 2025 was “Suspension arms: ball joint excessively worn”, on 16.8% of 91,007 failed tests. 51.1% of tests ended with at least one advisory, a problem to watch that did not fail the test; the most common was “Tread depth: worn close to legal limit or worn on edge”. The same fault on any wheel or side counts once.

Of the 343,168 Mercedes-Benz C-Classes licensed in the UK at the end of 2025, 52.0% have an engine of 2,101cc to 2,200cc, and 21.0% have an engine of 1,901cc to 2,000cc. The share with an engine of 1,701cc to 1,800cc has fallen from 25.2% in 2014 to 10.3%. Petrols made up 42.9% of those licensed in 2014 and 28.3% in 2025.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class fuel economy and CO2

The Vehicle Certification Agency’s new car data lists the Mercedes-Benz C-Class from 2000, when the data begins, and still lists it. On the WLTP test (listings 2020 to 2026), official combined fuel economy for its petrol, diesel, petrol hybrid and diesel hybrid versions ranges from 24.4 to 64.2 mpg, with CO2 of 117 to 262 g/km; electric versions have an official range of 369 miles; plug-in hybrid versions are rated at 38.7 to 706.3 mpg (weighted). On the older NEDC test (listings 2000 to 2018), official combined fuel economy for its petrol, diesel, petrol hybrid and diesel hybrid versions ranges from 20.6 to 78.5 mpg, with CO2 of 94 to 326 g/km; plug-in hybrid versions are rated at 56.5 to 134.5 mpg (weighted).

Defect
Mercedes-Benz AG has determined that on certain C-Class (206 platform) GLC (254 platform) and EQE (295 platform) vehicles the bolting of the steering coupling might not meet specifications.
Remedy
As a remedy Mercedes-Benz AG via its Mercedes-Benz service partners will rework the bolting of the steering coupling on the affected vehicles.
