Most common Rover Mini MOT defects and advisories

The single most common reason a Rover Mini failed its MOT in 2025 was “Steering rack: gaiter missing or no longer prevents the ingress of dirt”, on 10.8% of 3,035 failed tests. 38.5% of tests ended with at least one advisory, a problem to watch that did not fail the test; the most common was “Engine oil leak, but not excessive”. Rover Mini fuel economy and CO2

The Vehicle Certification Agency’s new car data lists the Rover Mini from 2000, when the data begins, to 2001. On the NEDC test (listings 2000 to 2001), official combined fuel economy for its petrol versions ranges from 43.0 mpg, with CO2 of 164 g/km.

There is a possibility of water ingress to the rear wheel bearings. If ignored this could result in bearing failure and in extreme cases possible loss of a road wheel.
