Most common Jeep Compass MOT defects and advisories

The single most common reason a Jeep Compass failed its MOT in 2025 was “Tyres: tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm”, on 13.9% of 2,976 failed tests. 50.6% of tests ended with at least one advisory, a problem to watch that did not fail the test; the most common was “Tread depth: worn close to legal limit or worn on edge”. The same fault on any wheel or side counts once.

The share with an engine of 1,301cc to 1,400cc has grown from 0.0% in 2014 to 60.5%. Diesels made up 58.6% of those licensed in 2014 and 21.8% in 2025.

Jeep Compass fuel economy and CO2

The Vehicle Certification Agency’s new car data lists the Jeep Compass from 2007, and still lists it. On the WLTP test (listings 2019 to 2026), official combined fuel economy for its petrol, diesel and petrol hybrid versions ranges from 29.4 to 52.3 mpg, with CO2 of 122 to 221 g/km; electric versions have an official range of 277 to 350 miles; plug-in hybrid versions are rated at 137.1 to 183.4 mpg (weighted). On the older NEDC test (listings 2007 to 2018), official combined fuel economy for its petrol and diesel versions ranges from 29.7 to 64.2 mpg, with CO2 of 117 to 226 g/km.

Defect
On certain vehicles the under-seat intermediate connection or the rear connection to the Integrated Dual Charging Module (IDCM) may not be tightened to the proper torque which may cause overheating of the terminal with risk of thermal incident to surrounding parts.
Remedy
Check the conformity of the fastener torque on the 12V cable connection and if required replacement of the cable.
