1,889 battery electric cars were licensed in Redcar and Cleveland at the end of June 2026, 2.7% of all cars, 39th lowest of 361 councils. With plug-in hybrids, 2,737 cars plug in. A year earlier there were 1,235.

Of the privately kept cars, which are registered at home addresses, 2.2% are battery electric (1,461 cars), 2nd lowest of 12 councils in the North East. Companies keep 22.7% of the area’s battery electric cars, against 4.9% of its cars overall. There are also 90 battery electric vans.
