1,639 battery electric cars were licensed in Redcar and Cleveland at the end of March 2026, 2.4% of all cars, 31st lowest of 361 councils. With plug-in hybrids, 2,398 cars plug in. A year earlier there were 1,115.

Of the privately kept cars, which are registered at home addresses, 1.9% are battery electric (1,218 cars), 2nd lowest of 12 councils in the North East. Companies keep 25.7% of the area’s battery electric cars, against 4.9% of its cars overall. There are also 75 battery electric vans.
