2,394 battery electric cars were licensed in Monmouthshire at the end of June 2026, 4.1% of all cars, 145th highest of 361 councils. With plug-in hybrids, 3,541 cars plug in. A year earlier there were 1,645.

Of the privately kept cars, which are registered at home addresses, 3.5% are battery electric (1,953 cars), the highest of 22 councils in Wales. Companies keep 18.4% of the area’s battery electric cars, against 4.5% of its cars overall. There are also 86 battery electric vans.
