Proton Persona MOT reliability

Of the 124 Proton Personas licensed in the UK at the end of 2025, 51.6% have an engine of 1,501cc to 1,600cc, and 19.4% have an engine of 1,201cc to 1,300cc. The share with an engine of 1,501cc to 1,600cc has grown from 36.6% in 2014 to 51.6%. Other fuels made up 4.8% of those licensed in 2014 and 8.1% in 2025.

Proton Persona fuel economy and CO2

The Vehicle Certification Agency’s new car data lists the Proton Persona from 2000, when the data begins, to 2001. On the NEDC test (listings 2000 to 2001), official combined fuel economy for its petrol and diesel versions ranges from 29.3 to 37.3 mpg, with CO2 of 189 to 236 g/km.

Defect
The starter relay may allow the starter motor to operate independently of the ignition switch. In extreme cases this could lead to the movement of the vehicle if left in gear or a fire hazard.
