Mazda 626s licensed in Great Britain
Numbers peaked in 1999 and have fallen every year since, as older cars are scrapped faster than new ones are registered.
There were not enough MOT tests of Mazda 626s in 2025 to publish reliable figures: we need at least 1,000 tests of cars aged three and over. Cars have their first MOT at three years old, so newer models appear once they reach that age. How we work out MOT figures.

Official figures from laboratory type-approval tests. VCA says they may not be achieved in
real-world driving, and should not be used to rank cars with similar figures.
Engine sizes are rounded to the nearest 0.1 litre. A version is one line in
VCA’s data (description, gearbox, engine and fuel), counted once however many years it was
listed.

Mazda 626 safety recalls
DVSA lists 4 safety recalls for the Mazda 626 since 1992, the first in 1993. The most recent was launched on 30 September 2016.
Fire may occur
Launched 30 September 2016DVSA recall R/2016/210Manufacturer ref. AF050A
Defect
Carbonised grease may accumulate between the contact points in the ignition switch reducing the insulation performance inside the switch. In this condition the switch may generate heat resulting in smoke and in the worst case a fire.
A recall applies to cars built on particular dates or with particular VINs, not to every Mazda 626. The details come from manufacturers through DVSA, which says they may be delayed or
incomplete. To check a specific car, use GOV.UK’s vehicle recall check or ask the manufacturer or a
dealer. How we match recalls to models.
