Not every Mercedes-Benz Vito is affected. Each recall covers cars built on particular dates or with

Mercedes-Benz Vito safety recalls by year of launch
The manufacturer has determined that on affected vehicles a potentially defective airbag module from Takata might have been installed during a driver-airbag replacement. In the event of an accident with airbag deployment the airbag may not provide any restraining effect and there could be a risk of injury to the occupants from separating inflator parts.
Remedy
Check the airbag on the affected vehicles and replace it if necessary.

Defect
Mercedes-Benz are updating the engine control unit software in diesel vehicles with emissions standard Euro 5 as part of a mandatory recall. This measure was supposedly carried out previously on the vehicles included in this measure but the software update was not properly documented in our systems at that time.
Remedy
Mercedes-Benz will perform control unit programming on the vehicles affected using the Service Measure special process as part of a recall. As part of this the software of the affected control units will be updated. The scope of the affected control units may vary depending on the vehicle equipment.

Rotating front seat wire fixings can loosen

Defect
It has been determined that on Vito models with rotating front seats (SA codes SB5/SB6) the front seats can loosen the wire fixings under the seats when being rotated. Should the wiring harness be damaged in the worst-case scenario this could lead to deactivation of the thorax bag or to unintentional triggering of the thorax bag in the case of a short circuit caused in the process. A disarmed thorax bag is indicated via the SRS indicator lamp. The reason for this is the technical concept which allows for flexible cable harness installation depending on the seat mounting.
Remedy
Since the beginning of June 2017 the series has protected the wiring from jamming and damage by using an optimized mounting clip. We will recall and bring the installation of the cables under the swivel seats on the affected vehicles up to the optimized current series status.

Defect
The brake fluid container may not have been inserted far enough into its mounts or was not secured correctly which can result in it detaching and a loss of brake fluid. The driver could become aware of this by the gradual deterioration of brake performance by having to press the brake pedal further. This can consequently increase the risk of collision.
Remedy
Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and check the brake fluid reservoir on the affected vehicles to ensure it is properly engaged and if necessary fix it in the correct position.

Defect
On the affected vehicles the end pipe of the auxiliary air heater may not have been routed correctly due to a cut out in the vehicle floor that is possibly missing. Exhaust from the auxiliary air heater is possibly not correctly diverted under the vehicle floor and could to some extent enter the vehicle interior. There is a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning and a risk of fire for the under floor panelling cannot be ruled out.
Remedy
Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and check for the presence of the cut out on the affected vehicles and drill this if necessary. Also the correct routing for the end pipe must be checked and where necessary corrected.

Defect
On vehicles fitted with the OM646 engine it is possible that an Air Conditioning (AC) hose bracket could chaff the wiring harness for the three phase alternator. If this is not rectified there is a possible risk of a short circuit which may result in a fire.
Remedy
Recall all affected vehicles to check for damage to the wiring and replacement if found damaged plus the installation of an additional spacer clamp.

It is possible that vehicles fitted with integral heaters within the fuel filter could suffer a leak in the upper plug area. This leakage should be identified to the driver by the smell of the diesel however if action is not taken to address the issue the issue could result in fuel escaping onto the road surface.

Recall all affected vehicles and replace the fuel filter.

It has been identified that the pane of the rear vent window could work loose from both of the front supports. As a result it is possible that the window could detach from the body and fall away.

It has been identified that due to a faulty aluminium housing the front passenger airbags may not deploy when required. On deployment the inner wall of the container may break resulting in the airbag failing to fully inflate and parts possibly dispersing into the vehicle.

Parking brake may fail

It has been identified that the potential exists for a material defect to be present in the retaining clip for the outer cable of the left hand rear parking brake. Should the retaining clip fail the outer cable would become detached resulting in holding effect of the parking brake being lost.

Recalled vehicles will have the left hand rear parking brake cable including the clips replaced.

Brake pedal to master cylinder clevis pin can become detached

Defect
The clevis pin which secures the brake master cylinder push rod to the brake pedal cross shaft may become detached due to the possible non-fitment of the securing clip.
Remedy
Likely to be affected vehicles will be checked for the installation of the securing clip. Should it be found that the securing clip has not been fitted one will be installed.
Engine speed may reduce or shut down due to software error

It is possible that the engine speed may reduce or in extreme cases shut down due to a software error in the engine management unit
Remedy
Recall affected vehicles and install revised software in the control unit. In most cases this will resolve the problem. In isolated cases it may be necessary to replace the control unit.

Defect
Mounting of the foot operated parking brake pedal may permit the mounting to become loose and in extreme cases the assembly may become detached from the mounting bracket.
Remedy
Recall the affected vehicles and replace the pedal assembly with a quality assured component.
Road vehicle recalls (DVSA numbers starting R/) whose model names match the Mercedes-Benz Vito. DVSA records some recalls under a range or chassis name we cannot match, so this list may be incomplete.
