24,771 battery electric cars were licensed in South Yorkshire at the end of March 2026, 3.8% of all cars. With plug-in hybrids, 38,370 cars plug in. A year earlier there were 17,448.

Of the privately kept cars, which are registered at home addresses, 2.8% are battery electric (17,341 cars). Companies keep 30.0% of the area’s battery electric cars, against 6.3% of its cars overall. There are also 739 battery electric vans.
