Every road vehicle recall DVSA lists for the Volkswagen Caravelle since 1992: what the problem is, how it is put right, how many vehicles it covers and when they were built. Newest first.
Not every Volkswagen Caravelle is affected. Each recall covers cars built on particular dates or with
particular VINs, which DVSA’s file does not list in full. To check a specific car, use
GOV.UK’s vehicle recall check with its registration, or ask
the manufacturer or a dealer, who can check the VIN.
42% of the Volkswagen Caravelles on the DVLA record are vans, and DVSA’s recalls cover every
body type, so some of these recalls may apply only to vans.
Volkswagen Caravelle recalls by year
Recalls launched each year, 1992 to 2026
1993 had the most, with 2. A count of recalls is not a measure of safety: one recall can cover a handful of cars or tens of thousands.

Volkswagen Caravelle safety recalls by year of launch
The steering shaft top universal clamping bolt may loosen .This will allow free movement in the steering and if not rectified could lead to loss of steering control.
Remedy
Recall the affected vehicles and replace the steering shaft top universal clamping bolt and nut with new components.
The pawl spring fitted as original equipment to the parking brake may be insufficiently long and consequently fail to exert enough pressure to ensure that the pawl engages positively in the ratchet teeth. This could allow the parking brake to release
Remedy
Recall the affected vehicles and replace the original pawl spring with a longer version.
The clamp bolt on one of three steering column universal couplings may not have been fully tightened on initial assembly. Should this bolt loosen it could allow excess free movement in the steering and if not rectified loss of steering control.
Remedy
Recall the affected vehicles check the torque of the subject bolt and where necessary re-tighten it to the manufacturers specifications. Where a clamp bolt is found to be below the specified torque the splines on the shaft will be examined for

Road vehicle recalls (DVSA numbers starting R/) whose model names match the Volkswagen Caravelle. DVSA records some recalls under a range or chassis name we cannot match, so this list may be incomplete.
Vehicles affected is the number the manufacturer reported to DVSA. When one recall covers several models, DVSA often gives only the total.
Build dates are the periods the manufacturer gave. Some recalls have none. VINs are not shown.
Concerns written in capitals have been put in sentence case, and apostrophes lost in DVSA’s file have been put back. The text is otherwise DVSA’s.
