VSM software missing AEB telltale in case of blind camera.

Defect
On certain Vauxhall Astra L vehicles the Automatic Emergency Braking Assist telltale fails to illuminate if the front camera is blocked. No AEB warning telltale meaning no warning light appears in the instrument cluster. An additional pop-up appears for around 10 seconds at each key on/key off (Driving Assistance Sensor Blind: clean sensor see User Manual). The Automatic Emergency Braking system is operating in a degraded mode but remains functional due to radar support.
Remedy
To rectify this issue we will update the Vehicle System Management software

Defect
On affected vehicles the chemicals in the Takata airbag inflators may deteriorate over time. This may cause the inflators to rupture with too much force in a crash leading to serious injury or death in a worst-case scenario.

Defect
Vehicles may be affected by premature wearing of the camshaft drive chain leading to abnormal noise or to a breakage of the chain in the worst case.
Remedy
Update the software to improve oil pressure and reduce wear. Check the engine noise and replace the chain if required. If no problem found change the oil to one with higher viscosity and special anti-wear additives.

On affected vehicles the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) may not be able to be activated. In the worst case this can lead to unintentional self-braking due to premature activation of the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) without there being anything in front of the vehicle. This is due to a metal sticker stuck in front of the radar module.

Front brake hoses incorrectly installed

Defect
On a certain number of Astra K - Model Year 2016-2017 (Only converted UK Police vehicles are affected) the front brake hoses might be incorrectly installed. This can lead to contact with the drive shaft boots finally resulting in failure/leakage.
Remedy
Vauxhall authorised repairers or Police Workshops are asked to reroute the brake hoses and to inspect the brake hose installation if necessary replace any damaged parts to guarantee accurate functionality of the brakes.

We would like to make you aware that on a certain number of Astra J GTC Insignia B - Model Year 18 there is the possibility of oil leakage from the turbo charger oil feed pipe. Defect
In the event the radiator cooling fan is blocked there is a risk that an electrical short circuit can occur. This in turn causes damage to the cooling fan module and in the worst case could potentially result in a vehicle fire.
Remedy
On affected vehicles check for presence of and if necessary remove battery cover. Ensure that the radiator cooling fan is not obstructed or blocked in anyway. Fit new additional wiring harness which will prevent damage to the radiator wiring harness.

If the radiator-cooling fan becomes blocked there is a risk that an electrical short circuit can occur. This in turn could cause damage to the cooling fan module and in the worst case potentially resulting in a vehicle fire.

Possibility of fire

Defect
In the event the radiator cooling fan is blocked there is a risk that an electrical short circuit can occur. This in turn causes damage to the cooling fan module and in the worst case could potentially result in a vehicle fire.
Remedy
In the first instance the battery cover must be removed to prevent overheating of the wiring/module. The cover should be disposed of and must not be refitted at any time. Check the cooling fan is not obstructed or blocked in anyway In approximately in 4 to 6 months-time an adapter wiring harness will become available and Authorised Repairers will be instructed to install this harness to the cooling fan module. This is now closed and superceeded by 16-C-004

Risk of fire

Defect
It has been identified that on vehicles fitted with the Z16XEP engine the upper oil pressure switch might release oil onto the exhaust manifold heat protection shield which could result in self ignition.
Remedy
Recalled vehicles will have the upper oil pressure switch replaced by a screw plug. Additionally a modified oil pressure switch will be fitted in a lower position.

Possible loss of steering control

Defect
It has been identified that on affected vehicle's the right hand front lower control arm guide joint may be incorrectly mounted. In the worst case the lower control arm could work loose separate from the steering knuckle and severely impair the control of the vehicle.
Remedy
Recalled vehicles will have the guide joint checked for correct mounting and replaced if the mounting is found to be incorrect.

Defect
As a result of an incorrect steering gear and steering knucle combination being fitted during manufacture the front tyres may contact the lower front suspension arms when the steering is turned on to a full lock.
Remedy
Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and replace both the steering knucles. Additionally the lower suspension arms and tyres will be checked for damage.

Defect
As a result of a production process concern a specific batch of brake calliper pistons may release hot hydrogen gas into the braking system fluid.
Remedy
Affected vehicles are being recalled for on the brake calliper batch numbers. Vehicle equipped with calliper units from the affected batch will have these replaced with quality assured examples.

Remote possibility of brake fluid contamination

Defect
Vauxhall in conjunction with DETR and VI have agreed to conduct a Customer Care Initiative whereby drivers of old style Astra F models will be advised that brake fluid is a service item due to its' hygroscopic (water absorbing) tendency.
Remedy
Customers will be offered a free inspection and a special promotion brake fluid change should the fluid be found to be outside the manufacturers specified limits. A minor modification to the vehicle bonnet will also be carried out to eliminate the remote possibility of water entering the engine compartment along the bulkhead and contaminating the brake fluid. It should be noted that this Customer Care Initiative is being recorded under the Code of Practice.

Defect
The engine wiring harness may chafe on the power steering pump pulley resulting in a possible fire hazard.
Remedy
Recall the affected vehicles and secure the wiring harness with cable ties as per the manufacturers instructions. At the same time the wiring will be checked for damage and where this has occurred it will be rectified as required.
