Bentley Continental safety recalls by year of launch

Defect
On affected vehicles the front axles may have been assembled with an incorrect drive shaft which is shorter than intended. If an incorrect front driveshaft has been fitted it may result in the hub securing nut becoming loose over time.
Remedy
Inspect the front driveshafts and replace them if required.
When riveting the airbag deflector bracket to the seat frame a sharp edge on the rivet could be created. In the event of the seat airbags being deployed it is possible that the airbag material could become torn reducing the effectiveness of occupant protection.

Defect

The convertible roof can be activated using the key fob at distances exceeding six metres

Defect
The convertible roof can be activated using the key fob at distances exceeding six metres which contravenes an internal safety guidance measure.
Remedy
Update the software parameters within the Body Control Module 2 to disable the activation of the convertible roof via the key fob and update the Owner’s Handbook.

Defect
A small number of vehicles may have an adhesive bond between the sunroof and the vehicle body which does not meet the specification.
Remedy

The connecting hose of the hydraulic power assisted steering system may detach

Defect
The power assisted steering pipes may detach from the cooler.
Remedy
Replace the affected pipes with dimensionally correct components
The sunroof glass panel may not be adequately bonded to the sunroof sliding frame. This may cause it to detach in motion.
Remedy
On affected vehicles apply addition adhesive between sunroof glass pane and sliding frame.

Defect
There is a possibility that the bolted connection of the battery cable where it passes through the bulkhead may be loose on a small number of vehicles. In most instances the customer is unable to start the engine. However in very rare cases if the battery is significantly discharged and the vehicle is being operated under increased electrical load a loose electrical connection can overheat whilst the vehicle is in use. If the above circumstances occur in very rare cases there could be a fire.
Remedy
Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and replace the original nut with a prevailing torque nut and tightened to the correct torque.

Defect
Only on the rear axle of vehicles fitted with carbon ceramic brakes the stainless steel screws fixing the rotor to the metal bell may fail due to stress corrosion cracking if the vehicle has been used in extreme salt environments. The customer will experience a noise when a screw fails and the brake continues to be 100% effective. However if the affected disc was to lose 8 of the 10 screws there would be a loss of braking at that rear wheel. This may lead to a small increase in stopping distance and could lead to a crash.
Remedy
Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected to replace the affected stainless steel screws with a screw of a different material that is not susceptible to stress corrosion cracking.
Centre rear seat passenger may not be fully restrained

Defect
It has been identified that the potential exists for the centre rear seatbelt upper guide bracket to distort in the event of a frontal impact. This could result in the centre sear seat occupant travelling further forward than the design intent.
Remedy
Recalled vehicles will have the subject guide bracket replaced with one which incorporates a revised design.

Fuel may leak

Defect
There is potential for road salt to corrode the outer surface of the fuel filter. In an extreme case this may lead to the filter housing becoming porous with a corresponding fuel leak which has the potential for combustion.
Remedy
Recall the affected vehicles to have the fuel filter replaced by the later designed corrosion-resistant coated filter and move the retaining clip.

Potential loss of braking efficiency

Defect
It has been identified that the potential exists for a foul condition to occur between a brake pipe and an engine mounted hose clip. A situation which could eventually result in failure of the brake pipe and an increase in stopping distance under braking. Additionally there is a risk of fire due to brake fluid escaping into the engine compartment.
Remedy
Recalled vehicles will be inspected and the clearance between the brake pipe and hose clip checked. If the clearance is to tolerance and no damage exists no further action will be required. Should the clearance be below the required standard remedial action will be taken as appropriate.

Possible fouling of brake pipes

Defect
Due to incorrect routing of the pipes connecting the brake pumps to the hydraulic accumulators there is a possibility of a foul condition between these pipes which if not corrected could result in brake failure.
Remedy
The affected vehicles are being recalled for inspection of the hydraulic pipes concerned. Where pipe clearance is found to be insufficient this will be adjusted to accord with the manufacturers specification.
There is a possibility that the SRS passenger air bag aluminium facia panel may become detached during air bag deployment with a risk of injury to occupants of the vehicle.
Remedy
The affected vehicles are being recalled for replacement of the SRS air bag facia panel and the adjacent matching facia air vent panels.

Possible failure of seat belt lower attachment rail

Defect
The front seat belt lower attachment rail may be of insufficient strength and could fail in the event of an accident.
Remedy
Recall the affected vehicles and replace the original seat belt attachment rail with a redesigned version.
